Tonya Kanaan

I am a Personal Injury lawyer with experience in Workers’ Compensation, TAC, and Public Liability matters. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of helping injured people understand their rights and navigate what can often be an overwhelming and confusing system. My approach has always been centered on listening, communicating clearly, and making sure clients feel supported every step of the way.

My career began at Zaparas Lawyers in 2022, where I worked as a Junior Legal Assistant in the Public Liability team. I then completed my traineeship across Public Liability, TAC, and WorkCover before practicing as a lawyer in the WorkCover department from 2024 to 2025. Each of these roles taught me the value of patience, empathy, and thorough preparation—qualities that I bring into all my client relationships.

More recently, I joined Slater and Gordon in the Client Intake Team. This role has allowed me to focus on helping people at the very beginning of their legal journey, assisting them to understand their options and connecting them with the right support. It’s a part of the process I genuinely enjoy, as it reminds me of why I chose to work in personal injury law: to help people feel heard, informed, and confident about their next steps.

The Victorian compensation schemes can be complicated, and I feel strongly about guiding clients through them with care and honesty. I believe good communication builds trust, and I strive to be approachable, straightforward, and reliable in every matter I handle.
