Peter is a Principal Lawyer at Slater and Gordon. Peter has a diverse advisory and disputes practice and acts for First Nations organisations, individuals, unions, and other not-for-profits and businesses.

Peter prides himself on providing thorough case analysis and advice and providing his clients with practical solutions to their legal problems. He is an experienced litigator having conducted litigation in all Victorian courts and in the Federal Court of Australia. He is experienced in engaging a wide variety of experts to build the evidence for his clients’ claims and test the evidence of his opponents.

First Nations advice

Peter is a trusted advisor to a large Victorian Aboriginal Corporation and is experienced in advising in relation to native title and Aboriginal heritage matters.

Reflecting Peter’s extensive experience acting for First Nations organisations, Peter is a member of the First Nations Legal & Research Services (FNLRS) Third Party Provider Panel (Legal). As a member of this Panel, Peter is eligible to undertake funded work for Victorian Traditional Owners on native title matters. Peter’s recent work for Victorian Traditional Owners includes preparing a native title application and acting as the solicitor on the record for Traditional Owners defending neighbouring groups’ claims.

Not-for-profit and corporate advice

Peter has extensive experience advising not-for-profit organisations in relation to corporate governance, rules, meeting procedure and member and director disputes, including litigation on these matters. Peter’s recent experience acting for not-for profit organisations includes:

  • advising a not-for-profit organisation in relation to the defence of an action brought against it by members alleging contravention of its rules.
  • assisting not-for-profit organisations to redraft their rules/constitutions to better align with their objectives and suit their needs.
  • advising in relation to the establishment of not-for-profits including in relation to appropriate structure and drafting rules.
  • advising not-for-profit organisations in relation to directors’ duties and conflicts of interest.
  • advising not-for-profit organisations in relation to membership disputes (disputes between members, and disputes between members and the organisation) and requests by members for general meetings.
Compulsory acquisition, environment and property disputes

Peter has acted for clients in compulsory acquisition matters since 2012 and is experienced in advising in relation to compulsory acquisition, claims relating to interference with property rights and claims arising from environmental contamination.
