I have worked exclusively in abuse law since 2016 and acted for hundreds of clients in both informal and litigated claims. This experience has provided me with in depth knowledge of the changing legal landscape and given unique insight into the State based and religious defendants. I feel strongly that my role is to empower clients and give them agency in the legal process. For many of my clients this process is not just about receiving compensation, but about being heard and acknowledged. I believe that taking the time to truly break down and explain the process is essential to ensure that the claim is a positive step in a survivor's healing journey.
Given the deeply traumatic and personal nature of the subject matter of abuse claim, I have adopted a trauma informed model of client care. This involves giving client’s choices in how and when they provide their accounts of abuse, attempting to minimise the need for them to repeat their stories over and over, and ensuring that I obtain the required detail efficiently and sensitively.
I have undertaken extensive training in trauma informed practice from Blue Knot, and cultural awareness training with the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation.
