Today’s High Court ruling which has found seven former non-executive directors of James Hardie Industries misled the stock exchange about a compensation fund for asbestos victims is a vindication for all asbestos disease suffers and their families.
Joanne Wade, Asbestos disease lawyer, with Slater and Gordon, said today’s ruling puts an end to the long running saga and is a welcome and important decision.
“It will ensure the manufacturers of deadly asbestos products are never allowed to mislead the public about their ongoing commitment and obligations to families devastated by the their products,” Ms Wade said.
“Hardies has a long history of misleading the community, initially about the dangers of its asbestos products and now more recently about its commitments to fully funding compensations for victims.
“Today’s decision sends a clear message to all firm’s who have made asbestos products over the years: do the right thing by victims or the courts will do it for you,” Ms Wade said.
