Posted on 10 Sept 2025
Leading law firm Slater and Gordon is urging any witnesses of alleged historical child physical and sexual abuse or inappropriate conduct by an employee or teacher against any student at Shalvey Public School in the mid to late 1990s to come forward.
Slater and Gordon has commenced proceedings on behalf of a 40 year old male survivor of childhood sexual abuse, who was allegedly sexually assaulted by a teacher at Shalvey Public School between 1994 and 1997.
“Our client alleges they were repeatedly sexually assaulted by a male teacher, assaults which he says began when he was in Year 3,” Slater and Gordon Associate Rushka Hackett said.
“He instructs that he was allegedly repeatedly sexually assaulted by the teacher during periods of detention.
The teacher allegedly used a cane to initially threaten the boy with punishment, then comfort the boy. This allegedly escalated to sexual assault which then allegedly occurred repeatedly in this setting between 1994 to 1997.
“On another occasion in 1996, the teacher allegedly sexually assaulted our client in Parramatta Park during an excursion to watch an NRL game.
“This alleged abuse has caused immense suffering and trauma to our client over the course of his life. Slater and Gordon is committed to uncovering the truth and helping survivors like our client to achieve justice.
“If there are any witnesses to physical and sexual abuse or inappropriate conduct perpetrated by an employee or teacher against any student at Shalvey Public School in the mid to late 1990s, we are urging you to contact Slater and Gordon Lawyers for a confidential discussion on 1800 565 892.”
Under New South Wales law, there is no longer a time limit on when a survivor of child sexual abuse can bring a claim for compensation, and witnesses may help victims to pursue a claim for damages regardless of how long ago the abuse occurred.
