Senior Slater and Gordon Lawyer Karina Hafford has been named as a finalist in the Partner of the Year category for this year’s Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards.
The Western Australian Practice Group Leader – who has been with Slater and Gordon since 2011, focusing on medical law and catastrophic claims – has helped her clients receive more than $30 million during the 2017-18 financial year.
Ms Hafford is known for taking on challenging and complex cases including the matter of a mother who unfortunately went blind after suffering an infection while giving birth to her 10th child.
She is passionate about developing young lawyers, mentoring countless law clerks and junior lawyers and has been a member for the Law Society of Western Australia Personal Injury and Workers Compensation Committee for almost two decades.
Ms Hafford said she was honoured by the acknowledgement, paying tribute to her team, which is based out of the firm’s Perth office.
“It is always wonderful to be recognised by your colleagues for the work you do every day,” Ms Hafford said.
“I really do have to highlight everyone in my team, without whom I would be unable to do my job effectively.
“I’m passionate about the work we do because it really does make a difference to people who are often going through a tough time.”
Slater and Gordon Western Australian General Manager Nunzio Tartaglia said Ms Hafford’s reputation within the Western Australia legal community was extremely well respected.
“Karina’s efforts to get the best for her clients are well known,” Mr Tartaglia said. “Her experience and knowledge of the legal system have resulted in fantastic outcomes for her clients and the firm.”
Award winners will be announced at a ceremony in Sydney on Friday 31 August.
