Western Australia’s best allied health workers have been showcased at the Rotary 2014 Allied Health Excellence Awards, supported by Slater and Gordon Lawyers.
The sixth annual awards event, held last night at the Mount Lawley Golf Club, acknowledged the outstanding efforts made by individuals and teams across five key categories.
Medical lawyer Karina Hafford said Slater and Gordon was proud to be the primary sponsor of the event to help recognise the health industry’s unsung heroes.
“Workers in the allied health services sector play a vital role in the lives of people who are badly injured, seriously ill and in need of significant care,” Ms Hafford said.
“Whether they’re occupational therapists, psychologists or social workers, allied health workers have a positive impact on their patients’ treatment, and their work is acknowledged with these important awards.
“I congratulate the winning team - Armadale Health Service ‘Community Rehabilitation Service Team’ – and four finalists on their outstanding efforts.”
The awards program was presented by the Mount Lawley and West Perth Rotary clubs. Rotary representative, Angus Buchanan, said allied health therapists were trained professionals who helped support a person’s care.
“Allied health professionals can considerably increase someone’s quality of life and independence and the Rotary 2014 Allied Health Excellence Awards aim to showcase their work,” Dr Buchanan said.
This year’s awards winner was Armadale Health Service ‘Community Rehabilitation Service Team’ in the Innovative Practice category. The four finalists were:
- Excellence in Rural and Remote Practice – Gascoyne Population Health Team
- Excellence in Community and Primary Care – Aboriginal Child Health Team
- Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring – Geraldton Sub-Acute Care
- Working in Partnership – Drugs of Dependence Unit
