Slater and Gordon’s Peta Yujnovich is passionate about lifting up some of the Sunshine Coast’s most disadvantaged residents, helping them to receive the best possible access to legal support.
The experienced lawyer has just been promoted to Practice Group Leader, running the firm’s Birtinya and North Lakes offices.
Sunshine Coast born and bred, Ms Yujnovich has worked as a personal injury lawyer in the region since 2006.
Her efforts to go above and beyond are highlighted by the fact that she has spent the past 12 years as a volunteer lawyer with the Suncoast Community Legal Service helping those from less fortunate backgrounds to receive the legal advice and representation they need.
She has also served as vice president of the legal service, which supports people throughout the Sunshine Coast.
“I have always believed that having an understanding of the legal system was a privilege and that using this skill to give back to the community was an essential part of my commitment to being a lawyer,” Ms Yujnovich said.
“Working at the legal service, I’m able to help people access legal expertise in all areas.
“It makes you realise that there are a lot of people in the community who need help and it really makes you humble for what you have.”
Ms Yujnovich said over the years, it had been extremely satisfying to help her clients at Slater and Gordon receive much-deserved support.
Slater and Gordon General Manager Queensland Frankie Carroll said the law firm was focused on developing lawyers like Ms Yujnovich, who were passionate about supporting their communities.
He said through Ms Yujnovich’s leadership, the firm’s Birtinya and North Lakes offices would be run with a focus on clients and the community.
“She has worked her way through the ranks through her commitment to her clients and social justice,” Mr Carroll said.
“I have no doubt that she will take on the new role with vigour as Slater and Gordon’s name continues to grow on the Sunshine Coast.”
