Slater and Gordon has this week announced the following senior appointments within the firm.
New South Wales
Promoted from Senior Associate to Principal Lawyer, Business and Specialised Litigation Services, Sydney
Vicky started with the firm at the start of 1999 as a law graduate where she worked on some of the groundbreaking commercial class actions. In 2005, she left the Sydney commercial litigation practice, but returned in 2008 as a senior associate. Vicky practises predominantly in commercial litigation, particularly in class actions and complex commercial disputes.
Promoted from Practice Group Leader, Ashfield to Practice Group Leader, Greater Western Sydney
Adrian was admitted in 2003 and joined Slater and Gordon in early 2011. For the past 18 months, Adrian assumed the direct responsibility for our inner-west Sydney office at Ashfield. In 2012, Adrian will take on new responsibility as the Practice Group Leader for our network of offices in Greater Western Sydney. Adrian will lead our efforts to coordinate our expanding footprint and growth in GWS, and to position us as the law firm of choice for those who live and work in that region.
Promoted from Practice Group Leader, Newcastle to Practice Group Leader Personal Injuries Regional NSW
Stuart was previously a partner at the law firm Reid and Reid, and joined Slater and Gordon in 2006. Stuart has earned an excellent reputation in his role as Practice Group Leader of our Newcastle office, especially in his capacity as acting for and achieving terrific outcomes for injured mine workers. In 2012, Stuart will take on the role of Practice Group Leader for Regional NSW and will be responsible for the growth and development of our regional offices.
Promoted from Practice Group Leader, Motor Vehicle Accidents to State Practice Group Leader, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Sydney
Genevieve was admitted in 1991 and spent the subsequent years as a lawyer and eventual partner with the well-established labour law firm, McClelland's in Sydney. In 2007, McClelland's was acquired by Slater and Gordon, with Genevieve soon after moving into a specialised role as Practice Group Leader in Motor Vehicle Accident group. In FY 2011, Genevieve assumed the role as the State Practice Group Leader for the MVA group, and in 2012, will continue in this role to focus on a number of key state-wide initiatives required to underpin our recent growth.
Promoted from Senior Associate to Practice Group Leader, Liverpool
Michael joined Slater and Gordon in 2007 as part of the acquisition of McClelland’s. Since that time Michael has worked mainly in workers' compensation and motor vehicle accident compensation in our city, Parramatta and Liverpool offices.
Promoted from Practice Group Leader, Workers’ Compensation to State Practice Group Leader, Workers’ Compensation, Sydney
Roshana May, formerly a partner of Maurice May Lawyers, joined Slater and Gordon in 2006. At Slater and Gordon, Roshana has specialised in Workers' Compensation, and late last year and in 2012, assumes the role of State Practice Group Leader for Workers’ Compensation. As State Practice Group Leader, Roshana will remain responsible for coordinating our lobbying activities and advocacy for workers in response to the recent workers’ compensation legislative reform.
Promoted from Senior Associate to Practice Group Leader, Parramatta
Steven joined Slater and Gordon in 2011 as part of the acquisition of Keddies. Since that time Steven has run a NSW Personal Injury practice covering all areas of common law, motor vehicle accidents and public liability.
Promoted from Lawyer to Associate – Business and Specialised Litigation Services, Sydney
Tracy joined Slater and Gordon in October 2007 as a paralegal, having worked for three years previously with boutique law firms in Sydney while she finished her degree. Tracy was admitted in 2008 and was offered a full-time position with Slater and Gordon as a lawyer in the Commercial Litigation practice. Since then, Tracy has worked mainly in class actions including Centro, Oz Minerals and Bell Potter. Fluent in Vietnamese Tracy is the firm's Vietnamese language contact person.

Jonathan started with Slater and Gordon in May 2007 as a law graduate. Jonathan is a second generation Slater and Gordon lawyer, following in the footsteps of his father, Peter. Jonathan practises in commercial litigation specialising in insolvency.
Promoted from Practice Group Leader, Geelong, to State Practice Group Leader, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Victoria
Katalin commenced with Slater and Gordon in December 2002 in the Motor Vehicle Accident group in the Slater and Gordon Lawyers Melbourne office. She returned to practice in her home town of Ballarat in 2003 and opened our office there, mainly specialising in workers' compensation and MVA claims. Under Katalin's management, the Slater and Gordon Lawyers Ballarat office grew from a team of two to its current team of 15. Katalin is an Accredited Specialist in Personal Injuries Law. She was also instrumental in establishing our Bendigo office in 2010. Katalin transferred to our Geelong office in 2011.
Promoted from Practice Group Leader to State Practice Group Leader, Workcover, Victoria
Meghan commenced work at Slater and Gordon in 1997 and rejoined the Slater and Gordon team in June 2006 after a stint in regional Victoria. Meghan has predominantly worked in the Workers' Compensation group, moving to the Ringwood office to establish the Workers' Compensation practice in May 2007, which has now grown from two to seven people. She has managed the Ringwood group in recent times in both Workers' Compensation and Motor Vehicle Accidents.
Promoted from Senior Associate to Practice Group Leader, Personal Injuries South, Frankston
Stuart joined Slater and Gordon in September 2007, having previously worked at the Transport Accident Commission. Stuart commenced his career at Slater and Gordon in the Melbourne Motor Vehicle Accident team. He became an Accredited Specialist in July 2009. In November 2010 he relocated to the Frankston office to manage the MVA team.
Promoted from Practice Group Leader to State Practice Group Leader, Tasmania
Craig joined Slater and Gordon in December 2004 from the Transport Accident Commission. Craig commenced in the Workers' Compensation group in the Melbourne office and became an Accredited Specialist in July 2009. In August 2011, Craig moved to manage the Workers’ Compensation team in the Reservoir office. Craig now is the State PGL for Tasmania, playing a pivotal role in the recent merger with Hilliard & Associates.

In the five years since her admission, Odette has developed a successful practice based on claims against financial planners and stockbrokers for providing unsuitable financial advice. A strong advocate for access to justice, Odette created internal systems to allow Slater and Gordon to bring such claims on a No Win – No Fee basis and supported the development of the 'Recover' product. More recently, Odette had a leading role in the Sandhurst and Nufarm class actions.

Maria McGarvie first worked at Slater and Gordon in the Carlton office between 1985 and 1990 as a solicitor in the Industrial Personal Injuries and Workers’ Compensation area and the Accident Compensation Tribunal field. Maria took a break from legal practice when she went on parental leave. She continued to work in the legal field including at the Australian Banking Industry Ombudsman, and as Grants Manager and Project Manager at the Victorian Law Foundation. Maria also worked with Jesuit Social Services and Volunteering Australia. Maria returned to Slater and Gordon in early 2008, joining the Asbestos team as a lawyer, and bringing a wealth of broad legal and community experience with her.

Elizabeth commenced with Slater and Gordon in 2000 as a New Client Services consultant where she worked until 2004. She has practiced in the areas of Workers’ Compensation and Commercial Litigation. In February 2011, Liz transferred to the Slater and Gordon Dandenong Motor Vehicle Accident practice.

Rachel commenced with the firm in 2007, after spending a decade working as a radiographer. Rachel practises in defamation and general commercial litigation. Rachel is a tenacious litigator who commands the respect of both her clients and opponents.

Tracy has enjoyed a long and varied career at Slater and Gordon, starting in 1990. Since 2007, Tracy has worked in asbestos litigation and is a veteran of the asbestos team.

James commenced with the firm in 2008, after working as a Judge's Associate and with the ACCC. James practices in professional liability and commercial litigation, focussed on claims against financial advisors, stockbrokers and valuers. In recent times, James has been heavily involved in managing the pursuit of multiple Basis Capital claims.
Promoted from Lawyer to Associate Personal Injuries South, Warrnambool
Cameron commenced with the firm at our Footscray office in 2008 as part of the merger with Secombs, having completed his articles one year prior. After spending some time in our Melbourne and Sunshine Workers' Compensation practice, Cameron took on the responsibility of heading up our new office in Warrnambool where he has been since July 2011.
Promoted from Corporate Services Manager to General Manager, WA Operations
Siri, originally from the United Kingdom, moved to Australia with his family June 2011. Working in a Corporate Services role in the Perth office over the last 12 months, commencing July 2012, he assumes the role of General Manager of our Western Australian operations. Siri brings a wealth of leadership experience into his new role.
Promoted from Practice Group Leader to Practice Group Leader – Medical Negligence, Public Liability and MVA, WA
Karina joined Slater and Gordon after leaving Shine Lawyers in 2011 and has overseen further growth in our PI practice. She leads the Medical Negligence, Public Liability and MVA team in servicing everyday Western Australians, and has already delivered some significant victories in her practice areas.
Promoted from Practice Group Leader to Practice Group Leader Personal Injuries North, WA
Tricia has been with Slater and Gordon since 2000 when she joined the firm to do her articles. Apart from a brief time working in the UK, she has been with the firm since her admission, and has specialised in Asbestos Disease claims. She has had a significant impact in winning justice for victims of Asbestos disease in WA.
Promoted from Associate to Senior Associate, Public Liability, Bunbury
Jamie joined Slater and Gordon in 2008. Jamie practices primarily in estate planning, and assists in overseeing property transactions and business advisory work, in addition to managing the Bunbury office. Jamie is very active in the Bunbury Community, building the Slater and Gordon profile through his board membership of the charity Heal for Life, involvement in the Bunbury Business Club and the Red Cross Wills days.
Promoted from Associate to Senior Associate, Personal Injuries, Brisbane
Barbara joined Slater and Gordon in 2007 with the acquisition of D'Arcy Lawyers. Since that time, Barbara has worked mainly in public liability and medical negligence in our Brisbane office.
