Senior Slater and Gordon Lawyer Sue Emery has been named as a finalist in the Regional/Suburban Lawyer of the Year category for this year’s Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards.
The Ballarat-born and based Senior Associate – who has been with Slater and Gordon since 2010 – has built up extensive experience managing both motor vehicle accident (MVA) and workers compensation claims.
Her dedication to her job has been proven in her passion for her clients, frequently travelling across regional Victoria to meet with them.
She has also been pivotal in the development of young up and coming lawyers, while also managing the firm’s Ballarat office.
During the 2017-18 year she delivered six figure settlements to 26 regional Victorian clients, including more than half a million dollars for a cyclist who was injured on her way to work.
“It’s always been important for me to live and work in my own town because I want to have a strong connection with the people I work with,” Ms Emery said.
“Helping young lawyers develop and establish their own careers is also very important to me, so I feel extremely privileged to help the next generation come through.
“I love my job, my firm, the people who I get to work with and most of all, the ability to make a difference in the lives of my clients.”
Slater and Gordon Regional Victoria Practice Group Leader Craig Lynch said Ms Emery’s reputation within the Victorian legal community was extremely well respected.
“Sue’s efforts to get the best for her clients are well known,” Mr Lynch said.
“Her experience and knowledge of the legal system have resulted in fantastic outcomes for her clients and the firm.”
Award winners will be announced at a ceremony in Sydney on Friday 31 August.
