Mentoring and supporting the youth at the Young Workers Centre
By Slater and Gordon

Slater and Gordon are proud supporters and actively work with the Victorian Trades Hall Council’s Young Workers Centre (YWC) – having recently concluded a mentoring night for young lawyers who gathered at the centre earlier in August. The YWC Victoria is a one-stop shop for young workers to learn about their rights at work and seek legal advice and assistance.
The Centre has accomplished a lot since its opening in February 2016, including successful industrial campaigns against Grill’d, Subway and Honey Birdette as well as regular television appearances on The Project and A Current Affair. The Centre has quickly become an authority on the exploitation of young workers in this country and has also claimed over $200,000 in underpayments for young workers across a number of different industries.
Slater and Gordon Senior Associate Carita Kazakoff was recently given a leave of absence to take up the position of solicitor at the Centre and our industrial lawyer Abbey Kendall is a member of the Committee of Management.
We look forward to working with the Young Workers Centre to assist young and exploited workers into the future.
