Two Workers Option 2 Blog

Slater and Gordon are proud supporters and actively work with the Victorian Trades Hall Council’s Young Workers Centre (YWC) – having recently concluded a mentoring night for young lawyers who gathered at the centre earlier in August. The YWC Victoria is a one-stop shop for young workers to learn about their rights at work and seek legal advice and assistance.

The Centre has accomplished a lot since its opening in February 2016, including successful industrial campaigns against Grill’d, Subway and Honey Birdette as well as regular television appearances on The Project and A Current Affair. The Centre has quickly become an authority on the exploitation of young workers in this country and has also claimed over $200,000 in underpayments for young workers across a number of different industries.

Slater and Gordon Senior Associate Carita Kazakoff was recently given a leave of absence to take up the position of solicitor at the Centre and our industrial lawyer Abbey Kendall is a member of the Committee of Management.

We look forward to working with the Young Workers Centre to assist young and exploited workers into the future.

Injured migrant food delivery workers can’t afford medical costs or time off to recover if inju …

Former Uber Eats rider Bruna Correa had only been in Australia for three months when she was car-doored by a driver getting out of a parked vehicle, while delivering food in Sydney last year. She required two surgeries, four months off work and three months’ worth of physiotherapy. When the driver’s door flung open, she fell off her bike and recalls seeing her arm hit the ground, breaking her wrist before the ambulance came. After realising she would no longer receive income to support herself, she sought legal support to lodge a Compulsory Third Party (CTP) claim. This meant she was supported by weekly payments to cover her lost income through her CTP claim which have now come to an...
