It’s important to keep two things in mind when making a claim through your super:
- It doesn’t affect your total balance.
Your benefit does not come out of your hard-earned super. The benefit comes from a separate insurance policy that is attached to your superannuation fund. - It doesn’t affect any other claim you may have.
You can claim your Superannuation benefits in addition to other compensation claims. Many people on workers compensation, motor vehicle injury compensation, Comcare or the Centrelink Disability Support Pension can claim as well as people who suffer an unexpected illness that prevents them from working.
