Elaine is a Senior Associate in Slater and Gordon’s Class Actions team, based in our Perth office. Elaine joined the firm in 2011.
She currently plays a key role in the team acting for almost 200 individuals and businesses who suffered losses as a result of the devastating 2014 bushfire that occurred in the Parkerville, Stoneville and Mt Helena areas of Western Australia. The matter proceeded to trial in 2018 and was heard over a period of six weeks in the Supreme Court of Western Australia.
Before this, Elaine was involved in the successful resolution of a large number of claims arising from the 2011 Prevelly-Margaret River Bushfire in Western Australia. The claims, brought by individuals affected by the bushfire, were settled by way of a compensation scheme that Slater and Gordon’s Class Actions team had negotiated with the Western Australia Government.
Throughout her time at Slater and Gordon, Elaine has been involved in advising trade unions on regulatory matters and acting for individual union members in respect to both civil and criminal matters.
In addition to her civil litigation experience, Elaine has practiced extensively in both serious criminal and regulatory defence matters, regularly appearing in the Supreme Court, District Court and Magistrates Courts as well as the State Administrative Tribunal in Western Australia.
Elaine is currently undertaking a specialist Masters Degree in Commercial Law at the University of Melbourne in Victoria. She is a member of the Slater and Gordon Pro-Bono Committee, the Law Society of Western Australia and the Victorian Women Lawyers.
