Associate, Asbestos Claims

Location Sydney, New South Wales
Language English

Nicole is an experienced lawyer who has worked in the Asbestos team at Slater and Gordon since 2011.

Nicole represents workers and family members who have contracted asbestos related diseases, including mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis and asbestos related pleural disease. Nicole is passionate about her role, and is motivated by the opportunity to help everyday working people get justice.

Nicole is able to achieve great results for her clients without losing sight of the bigger picture. Nicole understands that her clients and their families are coming to see her during a very difficult time, and is focused on ensuring they receive the honesty, sensitivity, and support they deserve.

“I aim for my clients to be quickly, fairly, and justly compensated with a minimum level of stress or interference on their lives. A good result is obviously critical, but how you get there can be just as important.”

Nicole has successfully run claims of all types and sizes, including claims in the Dust Diseases Tribunal of NSW, the District Court of New South Wales, and appeals in the NSW Supreme Court and the NSW Court of Appeal.

Nicole was a key member of the team acting for Steven Dunning in his claim against BHP Billiton Limited in the Dust Diseases Tribunal of NSW.  Mr Dunning worked at BHP’s Newcastle steelworks from 1979 to 1981 and was diagnosed with malignant pleural mesothelioma as a result of his asbestos exposure there. In a landmark decision, the Tribunal awarded Mr Dunning the highest judgment in the Tribunal’s history, including the highest ever amount of damages for pain and suffering awarded in NSW.

Mr Dunning’s matter was the subject of an Appeal before the NSW Court of Appeal where BHP’s appeal was unanimously dismissed.
