Ben is the head of Slater and Gordon’s class actions practice, and specialises in complex and large-scale litigation.

As one of the most experienced shareholder class action lawyers in Australia, Ben has achieved substantial settlements on behalf of investors in claims against:

  • GPT Group
  • Sigma Pharmaceuticals
  • Centro Properties Group and Centro Retail Trust
  • Nufarm
  • Downer EDI (2 separate claims)

In this capacity, Ben has developed strong relationships with institutional investors, claims managers, and litigation funders in Australia and abroad.

Ben has also settled class actions on behalf “mum and dad” debenture holders in claims against:

  • Sandhurst Trustees following the Fincorp collapse
  • TrustCo following the Australian Capital Reserve collapse

Based in the Slater and Gordon Lawyers Melbourne office, Ben is currently supervising six class actions, including a claim brought on behalf of asylum seekers detained in the Manus Island immigration detention centre against the Commonwealth, Transfield and G4S.

In addition to class actions, Ben has extensive experience in the conduct and management of mass financial advice and mis-selling claims, having acted for hundreds of investors following the collapse of Westpoint, Basis Capital and the Astarra Strategic Fund.

He has worked with regulators in cartel litigation, acting on behalf of the ACCC in its successful civil action in relation to the Visy cartel.

Ben joined Slater and Gordon after graduating from the Australian National University with Honours in Law. He is currently completing a Masters in Commercial Law at the University of Melbourne.
