More than 200 staff, family members and supporters from Slater and Gordon are taking part in the 2011 running of - or walking of - the annual Mother’s Day Classic this Sunday.

Slater and Gordon, a national gold sponsor of the event, has staff from offices throughout Australia taking part in the event which raises money for breast cancer research.

Slater and Gordon, General Manager, Cath Evans, who was a registered nurse before becoming a lawyer, said sponsoring the classic was important to the firm.

“The Mother’s Day Classic is just one way that we are able to lend our time and support to a good cause, to get active, and to help raise much needed funds,” Ms Evans said.

“It’s a big event on our calendar and each year we have more and more staff taking part.”

Ms Evans said the law firm was pleased to support an event that working towards “defeating breast cancer”.

“Many of us know someone who has been touched by breast cancer and it’s highly appropriate that this event is held on a day that celebrates the role of mothers and strong women in our lives.”

The Mother’s Day Classic was started in 1998 and in that time has raised nearly $8 million. It is largely run by volunteers, especially in regional centres, who donate their time for this worthwhile event.

This year’s event takes place this Sunday, 8 May at locations including Adelaide, Ballarat, Brisbane, Canberra, Geelong, Gold Coast, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney (Domain & Parramatta Park) and Wollongong.
