Slater and Gordon staff are preparing to take on a team of budding footballers from the Slater and Gordon GIANTS Academy in a Boots vs Suits game of AFL tomorrow (Wednesday) to celebrate the opening of the firm’s new Wagga Wagga office.
The Slater and Gordon team will be led by Wagga-based lawyer Geoff O’Hare and will include members of the firm’s Albury office, as well as volunteers from the Wagga community.
“We have had some very brave and fit-looking members of the Wagga community put their hands up to play for us, so we are very grateful to them and very excited,” Mr O’Hare said.
“We have all been training, eating well and watching a lot of professional sport to pick up tips.”
“There is no question that the Academy team will have youth on their side, but we have the benefit of our many collective years of experience.”
Slater and Gordon GIANTS Academy Manager Lachlan Buszard said he would be watching the game with interest.
“The GWS GIANTS are always looking for mature-age recruits, given our list is so young - it will be great to see the talent on display from the Slater and Gordon staff,” Mr Buszard said.
“The Slater and Gordon GIANTS Academy is critical to us developing home grown talent from across the state – including here in the Riverina.
“We are grateful to Slater and Gordon for partnering with us in the Academy and all the boys are looking forward to meeting the staff and having a fun game tomorrow.”
The Slater and Gordon GIANTS Academy nurtures young talent aged between 14 and 18 years across NSW, ACT and the Northern Territory, actively developing the skills needed for young players to be recruited.
Narrandera’s Zac Williams became the first member of the Slater and Gordon GIANTS Academy to play for the GWS AFL team when he made his debut against the Gold Coast Suns at StarTrack Oval in Canberra last month.
