Two Slater and Gordon lawyers are helping raise much needed funds for flood relief efforts in Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia following devastating flooding last month which saw tens of thousands of people flee their homes and lose all their possessions.
A recent Flood Relief Fundraiser organised by the Bonnyrigg Sports Club raised a total of $197,000 and will be donated the funds to Serbian charities – Novak Djokovic Foundation and the Vlade Divac Foundation – to ensure the funds go directly to flood victims.
Ashfield lawyer Branka Vidic and Liverpool lawyer Zorana Spasojevic not only organised for a $2,000 donation to be made by Slater and Gordon, but have also been assisting the club with additional fundraising for the appeal.
“It has been an intense two weeks of fundraising, but it is all worth it in the end,” Ms Spasojevic said.
“I am overwhelmed and so proud by the number of people and businesses outside of the Serbian community who have donated money and gift vouchers.
“Help for flood affected families is needed now but they will also need assistance in the months to come as they rebuild their lives
“This is just the beginning of a long road ahead, and I hope that the community continues to come together and help the people in our homeland.”
Ms Vidic said Slater and Gordon’s donation would help flood victims get their lives back on track.
“One just cannot imagine how devastating it has been for the tens of thousands of people who have had to flee their homes and end up with nothing but the clothes on their backs,” Ms Vidic said.
“The firm’s contribution will help those recognised charities provide families with basic necessities such as food, water and shelter.
“It is so important that as a community we rally behind the flood relief efforts that are helping those families who have lost their homes and all their possessions rebuild their lives.”
