Highly-regarded Victorian lawyer Mona Emera has been promoted to joint Practice Group Leader of the Slater and Gordon Family Law team in Victoria.

Growing up in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne, Ms Emera has returned to her roots after a two and a half year stint in Queensland where she was responsible for managing the development of the family law practice in Brisbane.

Ms Emera has practiced exclusively in family law for 10 years and said she thrives on not only delivering positive outcomes for her clients, but also knowing that she has made the process as easy as possible.

“Having worked with so many families over the years, I know how daunting the legal process can be during what is often a stressful time,” Ms Emera said.

“The greatest thing for me is being able to alleviate some of the pressure for families going through separation and allowing them to move forward as soon as possible.”

Ms Emera is intrigued by the complexity of family law and said she is looking forward to seeing how it continues to evolve with social change.

“In Brisbane, I volunteered at the LGBTI legal service where I provided advice on a range of issues including same-sex relationship property settlements, co-parenting and donor arrangements, surrogacy and family violence issues,” She said.

“I am particularly passionate about family law as it is a constant reflection of our changing society, but always holds at heart the best interests of the children.

“I am really excited to be back in my home state and am looking forward to doing some great things in the family law space and building on the success of the team to date to get the best possible outcomes for our clients.”

Family Law General Manager Luke Short said the appointment to Practice Group Leader complimented Mona’s hard work and dedication.

“Mona is a wonderful role model and mentor to the younger members of her team and is devoted to developing her skill set both as a lawyer and a manager,” Mr Short said.

“She is passionate about making the legal process easier to navigate for everyday people, provides clear and sensible advice and enjoys negotiating practical solutions so that her clients can move forward with their lives.”
