Slater and Gordon has promoted Asbestos lawyer Jessica Mackenzie to Principal Lawyer – just four years after starting at the law firm.

Ms Mackenzie joined the Sydney Asbestos team in 2013, promptly being promoted to Associate in 2014 – the same year she became a Law Society of NSW Accredited Specialist. She was then promoted to Senior Associate in 2015.

Ms Mackenzie said she was inspired to help her clients achieve the best possible result while they and their families dealt with what was a difficult and heartbreaking period in their lives, with many suffering from fatal conditions, such as mesothelioma.

“It really is satisfying when I can help achieve compensation for someone who is going through a terrible time. I have complete sympathy for people suffering from asbestos-related diseases and always want to do the best by them,” Ms Mackenzie said.

“The most important thing I can do is give my clients peace of mind knowing their family will be looked after.

“It really does give both my client and their family a sense of security.”

Ms Mackenzie said she was committed to working with her clients and their families to confirm when and where they had been exposed to asbestos.

“Obviously there are some clients where they can instantly pinpoint their exposure and then there are others where there is a bit more work involved,” Ms Mackenzie said.

“I never put any time pressure on a client – I allow hours when I first meet with them, to listen to their stories.

“I go through their history, where they were born, where they lived, what they did, really getting them to think about their potential exposure.”

She also paid tribute to the firm for allowing her to pursue cases that she believed in.

“It’s great knowing the firm believes in me, they’ve put a lot of faith in me,” Ms Mackenzie said.

Slater and Gordon State Practice Group Leader Joanne Wade said Ms Mackenzie’s commitment to her clients and their cases was second to none.

“Her client’s stories and bravery motivates her to help them achieve justice,” Ms Wade said.

“Her passion and commitment to them is proved in the way she handles each case and the results she achieves.”
