ISCW Building Seminar

Be informed and prepare for changes that will impact the building industry

The Victorian Government has identified a number of changes to the Building Legislation Amendment (Consumer Protection) Bill set to come into effect in 2017. Builders, building surveyors and others involved in the building industry in Victoria should start to prepare now for these changes.

Robert Auricchio will provide an overview of the upcoming changes and how these will impact your business. These changes include:

  • the establishment of a new conciliation framework for domestic building disputes, including the introduction of  Dispute Resolution Officers who can order the payment of money equivalent to the cost of the rectification or the builder to stop work by issuing a stop work notice
  • the obligation for builders to provide a ‘Contract Information Statement’, outlining the details of the contract, to consumers before entering into a major domestic building contract
  • the introduction of time limited registration and the requirement for builders to renew their licence every five years
  • the ability for the Victorian Building Authority to issue a show cause notice to a registered building practitioner if it believes that there are grounds for taking disciplinary action.

Those involved in the building industry should be aware of these changes and the impact on their business.
