On 20 December 2016, the Planning Minister, Richard Wynne, delivered his assessment under the Environmental Effects Act for the Melbourne Metro Rail Project. This determined the route for the project in Kensington and North Melbourne, which had been subject to alternative proposals until this point.
The formal process to compulsorily acquire properties will begin shortly. Notices of Intention to Acquire land required for the project are expected to be served in February 2017. Compulsory acquisitions will consist of properties in Kensington, Parkville, the CBD and South Yarra. A mix of commercial and residential land is to be acquired
From our considerable experience in compulsory acquisition, Slater and Gordon can explain the process to you and give you advice to protect your interests.
Now that the Project will proceed and the land required for the Project has been identified, it is extremely important for affected property and business owners to get legal advice. Our experience has shown that, with the right advice, the amount of compensation obtained can sometimes be considerably more than first thought. It is important to obtain expert advice on valuation and legal issues so that you are fully aware of your entitlements.
Our work is at no cost to you, as the Authority is legally required to pay our costs and we will only seek payment from the Authority – not you.

We are happy to arrange an appointment at a convenient location to discuss how we can be of assistance. If you would prefer to meet with a group of your neighbours who are also affected by the Project, we would be happy to facilitate that type of group meeting.
