Rachel Cosentino, Practice Group Leader, Perth
Rachel Cosentino was quoted in The Western Australia (17 February 2016, p9), commenting on planned reforms to the WA Strata Titles Act that are expected to be introduced to Parliament in the second half of 2016. Rachel is President of industry group Strata Community Australia (WA).
Jessica Latimer, Senior Associate, Melbourne
Jessica Latimer presented on ‘Elder Financial Abuse: The Law in Practice’ at the 4th National Elder Abuse Conference held in Melbourne. Jessica’s presentation highlighted the existence of professional negligence by financial planners, accountants and other professional service providers, as well as financial abuse against elders by family members and carers.
Jessica was featured in a range of newspapers where she touched on the fact that many of the elderly clients she has represented in financial cases were deeply ashamed but loathe to take action against their own children.
Jessica also appeared on a number of radio interviews where she commented on the rise of elder financial abuse as the population of elderly Australian, and their assets, increases. She said that some of the hallmarks of victims of financial abuse are vulnerability, physical frailty and isolation. She says it is important for anyone changing their financial situation to seek legal advice.
David Greene, Associate, Brisbane
David Green responded to the Queensland Government’s call for submissions regarding administrative and procedural issues arising from The Body Corporate and Community Management Act 1997 (Qld).
In his submission, David commented that the current laws governing residential and commercial buildings in Queensland are overly onerous and out of step with lawmakers’ objectives and that the current regulations are placing a large burden on bodies corporate across the state.
His submission was referenced in the Property Observer and the Australian Property Investor.
