State Practice Group Leader - Queensland

Tenacity and determination are two of the hallmarks of Tim Hammond’s approach to his asbestos litigation practice. What matters most to Tim is knowing that he has done everything he can to get the best possible result for his client, be they an injured worker or a victim of asbestos disease who has suffered severe incapacity or a terminal illness.

Tim’s work in the field of asbestos litigation, fighting against big defendants with big resources, such as CSR and James Hardie, on behalf of those with little or no resources is often urgent, but it’s a task he undertakes with dedication and compassion for his client’s circumstances.

Tim started with the Perth office of Slater & Gordon in 1999. Since then he has achieved numerous victories on behalf of victims of asbestos disease, practised in all areas of personal injuries litigation in most jurisdictions in Australia, and has been involved in a number of Slater & Gordon’s class action cases - one on behalf of affected villagers who lived along the Fly and Ok Tedi Rivers in the North Western region of Papua New Guinea; and another on behalf of the people of Bougainville against Rio Tinto.

Tim also oversaw a group action which seeks compensation under the Warsaw Convention on behalf of claimants who developed Deep Vein Thrombosis after long-haul flights. More recently, Tim has specialised in asbestos litigation.

Tim heads up the firm's asbestos litigation practice in Queensland and also oversees Slater & Gordon's rapidly expanding Queensland operations as State Practice Group Leader.
