Lawyer, Brisbane

Asbestos / Medical Negligence

The opportunity to make a difference to the lives of real people is what led Laura-Leigh Cameron-Dow into legal practice.

No less deliberate is her choice to work at Slater & Gordon and, in particular, “the commitment of the asbestos group to ideals and principles and the business we do – it’s great to work with people who do give a damn, and live it.”

Friendly, focused and forthright, Laura-Leigh applies a “never quit” attitude to working for her clients, typically blue collar workers – plumbers, electricians, dockyard workers, carpenters, builders, boiler makers, their spouses and families – many of them older, and all coping with the devastating effects of asbestos exposure.

For Laura-Leigh, a great day at the office is the satisfaction of knowing that her efforts mean her clients can spend what precious time they have left worrying about the right things, such as spending time with people – not worrying about their claim or whether or not their family will be okay.

Before qualifying as a lawyer in 2005, Laura-Leigh worked in IT and investment banking from 1997-2001 in the UK, and in advertising, theatre and music from 1987-1994 in South Africa.

Laura-Leigh completed her Bachelor of Laws at Bond University and joined Slater & Gordon in 2006.

"When clients or their spouses call because they are having a bad day and tell me they feel happier after speaking to me then I know I’m doing what I’m supposed to do.  Nothing beats the satisfaction of hearing from a client that I’m making an extremely unpleasant and painful experience less unpleasant and less painful. "
