Ken Fowlie
Executive Director, Sydney
Practice Group Leader, Asbestos

Ken Fowlie’s clients are working people who have dedicated themselves to their jobs, only to be confronted with an uncertain future in the autumn of their lives, often through exposure to asbestos.
Making sure that they receive compensation which will provide them with a measure of financial security and assurance is the work of Ken Fowlie and his team – a task they dedicate themselves to with care, empathy and efficiency.
Ken has conducted hundreds of claims for sufferers of asbestos-related diseases since joining Slater & Gordon in 1995. In that time he has won large damages awards on behalf of asbestos victims and a number of his cases have resulted in judgments which have clarified or expanded the compensation rights of asbestos disease sufferers, particularly in relation to access to the specialist Dust Diseases Tribunal.
Today he is manager of the firm’s five New South Wales offices and responsible for asbestos litigation.
In 2004 Ken was one of the team of lawyers who acted pro bono for unions and asbestos disease support groups in the Inquiry into the conduct of James Hardie. At the conclusion of the Inquiry, he continued as a key adviser to the ACTU, Unions NSW and Bernie Banton in relation to negotiations that secured continuing funding from James Hardie for asbestos disease compensation.
“The best part of my work as a lawyer with Slater & Gordon is providing a measure of financial security and assurance to someone confronting an uncertain future, either because of illness or some other misfortune”.
