Slater & Gordon’s commitment to protecting the rights of medical negligence victims and their families is backed by a solid track record of experience acting for medical negligence victims and a demonstrated interest in medical negligence law, law reform and education.

We have a national team of 14 lawyers focusing on medical negligence claims, presently chaired by Bill Madden and managed by him, Paula Shelton and Phil Gleeson.

Bill Madden is an accredited specialist in personal injury law and the co-author of the textbook Health Care & the Law, McIlwraith & Madden, 4th edition; Thomson LawBookCo 2006 and a part-time member of the NSW Privacy Advisory Committee. He is a member of the editorial board for Australian Health Law Bulletin (Lexis Nexis) and for Australian Civil Liability (Lexis Nexis). Bill has lectured part time in medical malpractice law for the University of Western Sydney Law School and writes regular articles on medical law issues such as Intentional torts claims in medical cases; Cockburn & Madden, Journal of Law & Medicine Volume 13, Number 3 – February 2006.

Paula Shelton is recognised as a specialist in personal injury law by the Law Institute of Victoria. She has worked extensively in the major projects practice, in particular Dow Corning breast implant litigation, and has a particular interest in the areas of ethics and medical law. She is a member of the Western Health Ethics Committee and the Law Institute of Victoria Ethics Liaison Group.

Phil Gleeson is National Director & Branch Committee Secretary (Western Australia) for the Australian Lawyers Alliance and chair of their Professional Negligence special interest group. Phil practises almost exclusively in the area of litigation for victims of medical negligence. He has 10 years litigation experience representing injured persons and has represented victims of medical negligence since 2001.
