Robert’s parents emigrated to Australia and settled in Melbourne from the Italian city of Naples – his father in 1949 and his mother following in 1953. Robert was brought up in Melbourne’s southern suburbs where he attended local Catholic schools and his family operated a number of small businesses. Robert speaks fluent Italian.
