Hayden is the General Manager for the Compensation practice in Sydney and Queensland. In his previous roles Hayden was instrumental in the rapid growth of the Perth practice as well as the compensation practice in Melbourne.
Initially, Hayden worked in the Major Projects department assisting with the resolution of claims for people with medically acquired HIV and was later involved in the Kraft class action litigation. Hayden also gained experience working in the asbestos department representing victims of asbestos disease.
In the mid 1990’s, Hayden was involved in representing approximately 200 men who, as children, were victims of sexual abuse in the care of the Christian Brothers Order. The claims – taken to the High Court of Australia – were resolved in 1996. Subsequent to this litigation, Hayden was appointed a Trustee of the WA Reconciliation Trust which was established to assist the victims and remained in this role until 2002.
Born and bred in Melbourne’s west, Hayden took up a position in the Footscray office in the mid 1990’s. In 1998, Hayden moved to Western Australia to take up a leadership role in our Perth practice.
In his time in Perth, Hayden built on his expertise in common law litigation which involved pursuing cases for injured people in various courts including the District Court of Western Australia and the High Court of Australia. He also played an active role in Community organisations such as DADAA (an Arts organisation for persons with disability) and was a board member of HeadWest (an advocate organisation formed to assist persons with an acquired head injury).
In 2004, Hayden assumed the role of National Practice Group Leader of Compensation at Slater & Gordon. In this role Hayden was active in assisting to shape legislative reform in the area of Compensation by participating in a number of liaison and operational groups associated with the Victorian WorkCover Authority.
