Slater & Gordon staff to run and walk for breast cancer research

Media Release

More than 300 staff, family members and supporters from Slater & Gordon are taking part in the 2012 Mother’s Day Classic next Sunday, by running or walking to raise money for breast cancer research.

This is the 15th year of the Mother’s Day Classic and Slater & Gordon, a national gold sponsor of the event, has staff from major and regional offices throughout Australia participating.

Cath Evans, General Manager at Slater & Gordon, who was a registered nurse before becoming a lawyer, said last year the firm took out the award for the largest corporate team in Melbourne.

“It’s a great way to stay fit and active, but more importantly, its just one way we can lend our support to a good cause by helping raise much needed funds,” Ms Evans said.

“So many of us know someone who has been touched by breast cancer, and holding this event on Mother’s Day – a day that celebrates the strength and role of women in our lives is very appropriate.

Ms Evans said the Mother’s Day Classic was just one event that Slater & Gordon participated in during the year. She said lawyers and other staff from the firm donated their time through a range of pro bono and community work.

“Our staff enjoy being active participants in the communities where they live and in supporting high profile events such as the Mother’s Day Classic.

“We work for a law firm that has been built on social justice values, so it’s no surprise that giving back to the community is part of what we do. It’s important to us,” she said.

Starting in 1998, the Mother’s Day Classic has raised millions of dollars of funds for breast cancer research. This year, the event is hoping to raise over $4 million to help reach $15 million in total funds since the classic began.

This year’s event takes place on Sunday, 13 May at 51 locations across Australia including capital cities and regional locations.
