Former High Court judge the Honourable Michael Kirby and former Olympian Lisa Curry last night launched Slater & Gordon’s new family law book, “Know Where You Stand”.
Authored by Slater & Gordon National Practice Group Leader, Ian Shann, the book is full of practical tips and resources with a strong emphasis on not wasting money and avoiding stress.
The book could easily save a separating couple a wealth of time and legal fees, as well as avoiding some of the pain during this emotional time.
Michael Kirby said he wished he had the book when he was on the High Court. “It’s actually accessible, it’s readable… this is the way you communicate ideas. The book has lots of vignettes and stories – things I never knew.”
Lisa Curry says she didn’t realise how much there was to know about family law. “This is a fantastic book. It’s a real eye opener.”

He upgraded his legal qualifications to enable him to handle his own family law case. It was an enlightening experience, especially when the lawyer on the other side – not realising who he was – shared stories with him about the terrible person “the husband” in the case was.

Last week Slater & Gordon announced an innovation in legal costs for family law cases. Under a new fixed fee model, to be introduced first in Victoria and then rolled out nationally, clients will no longer face open-ended costs on family law matters.
